The son of Joseph H. Hackley and Salina Fuller Hackley, Charles Hackley was born in Michigan City, Indiana on January 3, 1837. [1] [2] He was an important figure in the history of Muskegon, Michigan.
Charles Hackley (1837–1905), lumber baron, philanthropist (Hackley Hospital, Hackley Library, Hackley Administration Building, Hackley Avenue, Hackley Art Gallery, Hackley Park). After a gift of $12 million to the community, the city of Muskegon considered changing its name to "Hackleyville".
Mercy Health was formed in 2011 with the combining of Saint Mary's Health Care of Grand Rapids and Mercy Health Partners of Muskegon. Mercy Hospital in Cadillac and Mercy Hospital in Grayling were also incorporated into the group. [1] The hospitals in Cadillac and Grayling were purchased by the Munson Healthcare system in February, 2015. [2]
Charles Henry Hackley was born in Indiana in 1837. He moved to Muskegon in 1856, along with his father Joseph, and began work as a laborer in the local lumber mills. He was soon promoted to foreman, and then became a bookkeeper. In 1859 Charles and Joseph Hackley started their own firm, J.H. Hackley & Company.
