The 2024 Women's Amputee Football World Cup was a WAFF tournament held in Barranquilla, Colombia from 4 to 10 November 2024. [1] Games were held at Romelio Martínez Stadium and San Isidro Stadium. This inaugural amputee football event was the first time that women had competed separately from men. [2] The event was streamed live at YouTube.
It is responsible for the organization of the Men and Women's Amputee World Cup. WAFF mission "To include and support people with amputations or limb defects, increase their access to amputee football opportunities, and use soccer to improve their quality of life".
It is organized by the World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF). [4] It was first held in Seattle, USA, in 1984. [5] The current champion is Turkey who beat Angola 4-1 in the 2022 final. [6] The first Women's Amputee World Cup will be held in 2024.
The beginnings of Amputee football can be traced to Europe in the early 1900s. [1] The game which is played today, was created by Don Bennett, who was inspired from his accidental kick of a basketball on crutches in 1982. [2] In 1984 the first international amputee football tournament was held in Seattle. [2]

After defeating Contra Costa FC in the first round, the Black and Gold fell to regular season champions Sacramento Gold by a score of 3–2 to finish their season. [6] On December 1, 2022, Academica SC joined USL League Two for the 2023 season. A women's team was also established that will play in the USL W League. [7]
It returned to play this season to Lviv, near the Polish border, where fear of large crowds limited the team’s average attendance to 650 fans a game, about 300 below the overall league average.
