Rhizanthella gardneri is a leafless, sympodial herb with a horizontal rhizome 60–120 mm (2.4–4.7 in) below the soil surface. Beginning in late May to early June, the plant produces up to 100 small, inward-facing pinkish to deep red and cream coloured flowers 4–5 mm (0.16–0.20 in) wide, surrounded by six to twelve pinkish-cream bracts.
Strand was particularly influential in her development of cropped, close-up images. She received unprecedented acceptance as a female artist from the fine art world due to her powerful graphic images. [6] Depictions of small flowers that fill the canvas suggest the immensity of nature and encourage viewers to looks at flowers differently. [2]
This genus was named after the human clitoris, for the flowers bear a resemblance to the vulva. The first reference to the genus, which includes an illustration of the plant, was made in 1678 by Jakób Breyne , a Polish naturalist, who described it as Flos clitoridis ternatensibus , meaning ' Ternatean flower of the clitoris'.
It is an unusual plant in that it has black flowers. T. chantrieri has bracts that look like wings and are large in area. The flower can be up to 12 inches across. [5] Its height can range anywhere from 50–100 cm tall. The bracteoles look like long whiskers hanging from a bat that can be 8-10 inches in length. [2]
Lycoris radiata, known as the red spider lily, red magic lily, corpse flower, or equinox flower, is a plant in the amaryllis family, Amaryllidaceae, subfamily Amaryllidoideae. [3] It is originally from China, Japan, Korea and Nepal [ 1 ] and spread from there to the United States and elsewhere.
The flowers are produced in a dense cluster of up to 30 at the top of the stems (known as an umbel) and have a spicy, clove-like scent; each flower is 2–3 cm diameter with five petals with serrated edges; in wild plants the petals are red with a white base. [5] [7] [8] There are two varieties: [5] Dianthus barbatus var. barbatus. Southern Europe.
The flower has a long-tubed, pale perianth, which fully expands at night. This flower will then release a sweet fragrance, that contains acyclic terpenoid alcohol, linalool and abundant nectar, that attracts pollinators to it. [10] A. belladonna seeds are soft and fleshy, and appear white or pinkish.
