Simon (c. 1947 – 28 November 1949) was a ship's cat who served on the Royal Navy sloop-of-war HMS Amethyst.In 1949, during the Yangtze Incident, he received the PDSA's Dickin Medal after surviving injuries from an artillery shell, raising morale, and killing off a rat infestation during his service.

Simone Thérèse Fernande Simon (23 April 1910 or 1911 [1] – 22 February 2005) was a French film actress who began her film career in 1931. She is perhaps best remembered for her role in the American horror film Cat People , and its sequel The Curse of the Cat People .
Simon is a French animated television series based on Stéphanie Blake’s books published by L’Ecole des Loisirs, directed by Julien Cayot, adapted by Thomas Forwood and Stéphanie Blake and produced by GO-N Productions with the participation of France Télévisions. The show centers on an anthropomorphic rabbit named Simon.
Simon was the ship's cat of HMS Amethyst during the Yangtze Incident in 1949 and was wounded in the bombardment of the ship which killed 25 of Amethyst's crew, including the commanding officer. He soon recovered and resumed killing rats and keeping up the crew's morale.
