Manrique Alonso Lallave [1] also known as Fr. Nicolás Manrique Alonso Lallave [2] was a Spanish Dominican priest well known for translating the Gospel of Luke into the Pangasinan language, the first ever known instance of a part of the Bible translated into a Philippine language.
The Gospel of Luke in Aymara, translated by Vicente Pazos Kanki, a former priest from Upper Peru, in cooperation with the Scottish baptist pastor James Thompson, was published in 1828, which was the first publication of a whole book of the Bible in a Native American language. [1]
The first Gospel to be translated into a Romani language was the Gospel of Luke [1] into the Caló language, spoken in Spain and Portugal. It was translated by George Borrow. This was printed by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1837 and a revision was printed in 1872.
