Edmond is a city in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, United States. It is a part of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, located in Central Oklahoma. The population was 94,428 according to the 2020 United States Census, a 16% increase from 2010. [7] making it the 5th most populous city in Oklahoma. The city borders the northern boundary of Oklahoma City.
The school was originally named Edmond High School because it was the only secondary school within the city limits. The first class graduated in 1922, and consisted of 24 students. [ 5 ] As Edmond grew, the school changed location several times, moving to its current location on 15th Street in the mid-1960s.
The first class, a group of 23 students, met for the first time November 1, 1891, in the Epworth League Room, located in the unfurnished First Methodist Church. A marker of Oklahoma granite was placed in 1915 near the original site by the Central Oklahoma Normal School Historical Society. It can be seen at Boulevard and Second Street.
The high school opened in 1993 along with Edmond North High School. [4] In its first year, Santa Fe had only freshman and sophomore students; those initial sophomores were the school's first graduating class in 1996. [5] It was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by No Child Left Behind in the 2011–2012 school year. [6]
Edmond North High School is located in Edmond, Oklahoma.The school colors are silver, white and navy.The school's mascot is the Siberian Husky.. As of the 2012–2013 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,437 students and 127 classroom teachers (on a FTE basis, for a student-teacher ratio of 27:1.
In 1908, the Oklahoma Legislature passed legislation stating that, "...each of the Supreme Court judicial districts [shall have] a district agricultural school of secondary grade for instruction in agriculture and mechanics and allied branches, and domestic science, and economics, with courses of instruction leading to the Agricultural and Mechanical College, and the state normal schools".
