After Guilfoyle died in the summer of 1957, Pope Pius XII renamed the Diocese of Altoona to the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown to reflect the population growth of Johnstown. Bartchak has also served on the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the highest court of the Vatican, since 2021 and is considered an authority on canon law.
