Pleasanton is located about 35 miles (56 km) south of downtown San Antonio, 110 miles (180 km) south-southwest of Austin and 110 miles (180 km) north by north-northwest of Corpus Christi.

It links South Texas to the northern parts of the state via I-69E, US 77, and US 281. The highway functions as one of the few freeway hurricane evacuation routes for the southern Texas coast. At the center of the city is the intersection of Texas State Highways 16 and 97. Highway 16 leads north to San Antonio and south 165 miles (266 km) to Zapata near the Mexican border. Highway 97 leads northeast 4 miles (6 km) to Pleasanton and 28 miles (45 km) to Floresville, and southwest 67 miles (108 km) to Cotulla.
The two routes split south of Pleasanton and separately travel northward to San Antonio. In San Antonio, US 281 overlaps I-410 on the south side of the city until another interchange with I-37. US 281 and I-37 then overlap north into Downtown San Antonio until I-37 ends at I-35 .
Pleasanton High School straddles multiple campus buildings. Pleasanton Independent School District is a public school district based in Pleasanton, Texas ().. In 2011, the School District was rated "Academically Acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.
McCoy is an unincorporated community in Atascosa County, Texas, United States. [1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 30 in 2000. It is located within the San Antonio metropolitan area.
The highway was originally designated on August 4, 1932 from Hondo southeast to Devine. [2] On October 26, 1932, it was extended southeast to Pleasanton. [3] On January 11, 1933, it was rerouted to end in Jourdanton. [4]
