Music City Mall is a regional shopping mall located in Odessa, Texas that originally opened in 1980 as the Permian Mall. The mall itself houses over 100 businesses and used to have the only ice skating facility within 300 miles (480 km), the MCM Ice Skating Facility was replaced by a Rollerskate rink in 2021 because a part of the rink was damaged beyond repair.
The story of Permian High School's 1988 Permian Panthers team and its run towards the state championship was the subject of the best-selling book Friday Night Lights, published in 1990. A movie based on the book was made in 2004 and the NBC television network aired a TV series loosely based on the school and book.
Permian played Dallas Jesuit in Odessa during the regular season in 1988, winning 48–2. Jesuit's only points came on a missed- PAT return, which was a rule instituted that year (the defensive conversion was not allowed in high school football under National Federation of State High School Associations rules, but Texas plays by NCAA rules).

Odessa High had once been the beacon of hope in the city. It won the 1946 state championship and did well overall. Then, Permian opened in 1959.
