Cannon Beach is a city in Clatsop County, Oregon, United States. Its population was 1,690 at the 2010 census . It is a popular coastal Oregon tourist destination, famous for Haystack Rock , a 235 ft (72 m) sea stack that juts out along the coast. [ 6 ]
Haystack Rock is located about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of downtown Cannon Beach in Clatsop County and about 80 miles (129 km) west of Portland. The nearest major road is U.S. Route 101. Haystack Rock is part of the Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site. The area below the mean high water (MHW) level is managed by Oregon Parks and Recreation.
The 43-acre (17 ha) park has a large parking area, public restrooms, and a sloping walkway to the beach. Erosion has formed caves in sandstone cliffs along the headland's south side, which is also the site of a seasonal waterfall. The Oregon Coast Trail passes through the park along the beach. [3]
Ecola State Park is a state park located approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Cannon Beach in Clatsop County in the U.S. state of Oregon on the Oregon Coast. It is administered by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. [2] The park encompasses 9 miles (14 km) of coastline between Cannon Beach and Seaside and includes Tillamook Head. [2]
