Dr. Black's Spartanburg Hospital was one of five hospitals that were sold in 1920–1921; the proceeds were used to finance Spartanburg General Hospital. When Spartanburg General Hospital opened on Aug. 29, 1921, people arrived by motorcars, horse-drawn buggies, wagons, and trolleys to celebrate the opening.
