West Park Township was a small, short-lived township that was split from Rockport Township in 1900. Historically, the area had been poor and underdeveloped, leading to its nickname of the "lost city". The township lasted little more than 20 years, as it was annexed to the city of Cleveland in 1923.
On January 31, 1900, Rockport Hamlet petitioned the county to form its own co-existent township with Rockport Township. [11] On March 7, 1900, the request was granted and a new Township of West Park was created. In 1902 the Rockport Hamlet was incorporated as Rockport Village within West Park Township.
Lincoln Pioneer Village is a memorial along the Ohio River in Rockport, Spencer County, Indiana to President Abraham Lincoln who lived in the county during his boyhood years. [2] It was built in 1934 and 1935 [ 2 ] [ 3 ] in the city park by the Works Progress Administration . [ 4 ]
By 1819, 18 families lived in Rockport Township. Early settlers sustained their lives through farming. The land was ideal for fruit farming and many vineyards began to emerge. [9] Current street names reflect this history such as Orchard Grove and Blossom Park. The most common occupations in Lakewood were farming and the building trades.

Rockport was platted in 1836. [2] The post office at Rockport was called Cranberry. [3] This post office was established in 1849, and remained in operation until 1901. [4] Rockport is infamously known for its unique cuisine flavor of Peafowl, specifically Peacock.

The area is just west of Rockport's noted Bearskin Neck area. Most of the 28 properties in the district are commercial buildings; there are also three churches, a library, and a number of residences. Only a few of these properties front on the side streets adjacent to Main Street; all abut Main Street.
