It is native to eastern Canada and the eastern United States, from Newfoundland west to Ontario, Minnesota, and Iowa, south as far as Georgia and Alabama.
Amelanchier utahensis is a spreading plant, reaching a maximum of five meters (16 feet) in height. It is deciduous, bearing rounded or spade-shaped often toothed green leaves and losing them at the end of the season.
