Betty Friedan (/ ˈ f r iː d ən, f r iː ˈ d æ n, f r ɪ-/; [1] February 4, 1921 – February 4, 2006) was an American feminist writer and activist. A leading figure in the women's movement in the United States, her 1963 book The Feminine Mystique is often credited with sparking the second wave of American feminism in the 20th century.
Friedan discusses the "trapped housewife" phenomenon, made up of mothers who felt unfulfilled with their daily lives and the societal expectation that they remain at home. [ 95 ] [ 96 ] Feeling unhappy, but unsure why, [ 96 ] mothers sometimes turned to prescribed tranquilizers "because it makes you not care so much that it's pointless."
Heart failure (HF), also known as congestive heart failure (CHF), is a syndrome caused by an impairment in the heart's ability to fill with and pump blood. Although symptoms vary based on which side of the heart is affected, HF typically presents with shortness of breath , excessive fatigue , and bilateral leg swelling . [ 3 ]
