The Henderson Park-West Main Hill Historic District is a primarily residential historic district roughly bounded by West Main, Thompson, Academy, Monroe, West Lovell and Valley Streets and Prairie Avenue in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Chapin Mine Steam Pump Engine, also known as The Cornish Pump, was built by the E. P. Allis Company (now Allis-Chalmers) in 1890–91, and is still the largest reciprocating steam-driven engine ever built in the United States. It was use in the 1890s at the Chapin Mine "D" shaft, and from 1907 to 1914 at the nearby Ludington Mine "C" shaft.
Robert and Rae Levin House, also Robert Levin House and Robert Levin Residence, is a single-family home in Kalamazoo, Michigan and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.. In 1949, [clarification needed] Robert and Rae Levin worked with Frank Lloyd Wright to build a house, the first one to be constructed in Parkwyn Village, a planned community of Usonian houses.
After being kidnapped and raised by a local Chippewa tribe from age eleven to age eighteen, William Tucker was given 18 square miles of land by the tribe, who later helped him build a log cabin on the land to become his residence. The home has since been refaced with brick, but parts of the original structure remain intact beneath. [2]
Henderson Castle, built in 1895, is a large privately owned home located on the steep West Main Hill overlooking downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan. The castle has been recently renovated and is under new ownership. The building is open to the public.
