The Alerce Milenario Tree is located in a ravine, in the Alerce Coster National Park. The park is 137 hectares (340 acres), and up to 1,048 m (3,438 ft) above sea level. It has a rainy temperate climate with rains all year round.
Other researchers have developed models of maximum height for Coast Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii) trees that yield similar estimates of 109–138 meters (357–452 feet), [46] a range that includes the height of the tallest reliably-measured historical (dead) specimen, a 126-meter tree. [46] [47] [48]
The height is difficult to measure due to the very broad crown; the 2005 measurement, made by laser, is 35.4 m (116 ft), [2] shorter than previous measurements of 41–43 m (135–141 ft). [3] Full view of the Árbol del Tule. It is so large that it was originally thought to be multiple trees, but DNA tests have proven that it is only one tree.
It is the largest and oldest living specimen of Dracaena draco (common name dragon tree). [1] It is in Parque del Drago, Icod de los Vinos in Tenerife. [2] It is around 20–21 metres (66–69 ft) tall, [1] with a circumference around 20 metres (66 ft). It has over 300 main branches.
By the time of the Spanish conquest of Chiloé Archipelago in 1567 most of the islands were covered by dense forest where F. cupressoides grew. [10] The wood was economically important in colonial Chiloé and Valdivia, which exported planks to Peru. [11] A single tree could yield 600 planks with a width of at least 0.5 m and a length of 5 m. [10]
Sapodilla tree. Sapodilla trees can live up to one hundred years. [10] [11] It can grow to more than 30 m (98 ft) tall with a trunk diameter of up to 1.5 m (5 ft); but the average height of cultivated specimens is usually between 9 and 15 m (30 and 49 ft) with a trunk diameter not exceeding 50 cm (20 in).
