Columbus is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. [1] The community is on Missouri Route M approximately 2.5 miles north of US Route 50. Warrensburg is ten miles to the southeast. The North Fork of the Blackwater River flows past one half mile to the southwest. [2]
The complex developed between about 1855 and 1917. It includes the main brewery complex and two ice houses (c. 1888, c. 1897). The main brewery complex that is a multi-storied complex of buildings with five main sections. Much of the complex dates to 1888, with additions made in 1917. The cellars date to about 1855. The brewery closed in 1954. [2]

Beer production resumed in 1933 following the repeal of Prohibition and the company was renamed "The August Wagner and Sons Brewing Company." In 1937 the company was renamed "August Wagner Breweries, Inc." August’s daughter Helen A. Wagner, Vice President of the brewery, appeared on the CBS game show “What’s My Line” on June 3, 1962.
