Lewis and Clark State Park is a public recreation area occupying 189 acres (76 ha) on the south shore of 365-acre (148 ha) Lewis and Clark Lake (a.k.a. Sugar Lake) in Buchanan County, Missouri. The state park features camping, picnicking, and fishing.
Three campgrounds are located within the recreation area, called the Yankton Section, Midway Section, and Gavins Point Section - with a total of 418 campsites, along the shores of Lewis and Clark Lake. There are 19 camper cabins. Numerous biking, hiking, equestrian, and nature trails travel along Lewis and Clark Lake and the surrounding bluffs.
The park is named for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, the leaders of the Corps of Discovery, which camped near here on April 17, 1805. [3] The North Dakota state parks department added three park units on Lake Sakakawea after the state legislature authorized the leasing of land from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1971.
