Established as a state park in 1971, the 3,260-acre (13.2 km 2) [1] Deer Creek State Park features the large Deer Creek Reservoir, which is popular for fishing and sun tanning, along with other surface water sports such as boating, sailing, swimming, and windsurfing. The park is at an elevation of 5,400 feet (1,600 m). [2]
The Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir hydroelectric facilities are on the Provo River in western Wasatch County, Utah, United States, [1] [2] about 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Provo. The dam is a zoned earthfill structure 235 feet (72 m) high with a crest length of 1,304 ft (397 m).
The park has several overlooks, a visitor center, and picnic areas. The Kayenta Campground has 21 RV campsites with electricity and tent pads. The Wingate Campground features 4 yurts, 20 RV campsites and 11 hike-in tent-only sites. There are five additional yurts at the Moenkopi Yurt area. A coffee shop serves food and beverages.

Hailstone is a large campground and day-use area on the west side of the reservoir. It is the side that experiences the most intensive use, including walk-in and RV camping, motorized boating, personal watercraft launch area, three group use pavilions, 41 family picnic sites, and a marina store and restaurant.
