The Northumberland County Historical Society is a Pennsylvania nonprofit organization, which was chartered on October 26, 1925 and incorporated on May 21, 1998. Its leaders, members and volunteers are dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of artifacts, documents, photographs, and other items which tell the story of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania and its people.
The Northumberland Historic District is a historic district listed in the US government's National Register of Historic Places in 1988. The "gem" of the district is a National Historic Landmark, the Joseph Priestley House .

This historic district encompasses 719 contributing buildings that are located in the central business district and surrounding residential areas of Milton.. The buildings mostly date from the 1880s to the early twentieth century; older buildings were largely lost due to a fire in 1880 and floods in 1972 and 1977.
