Hastings (/ ˈ h eɪ s t ɪ ŋ s / HAY-stings) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Barry County, as well as the county's only city. [5] The population was 7,514 at the 2020 census. The city borders Hastings Charter Township on the north, east, and south, and Rutland Charter Township on the west.

[19] [20] The fourth change in the Barry County routing was made by the next year; the highway was rerouted due northward out of Hastings along Broadway Street. M-79 is an east–west state trunkline highway in the central portion of Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. The western terminus is about three miles (4.8 km) southeast of Hastings at the junction with M-37 and the eastern terminus is in downtown Charlotte at the junction with M-50 and Business Loop Interstate 69 (BL I-69).
The road passes through mixed agricultural and forest lands near several small lakes in the area. On its path to Hastings, the trunkline runs through Dowling and meets the western terminus of M-79. The highway follows Hanover Street through the south side of Hastings into downtown, where it turns west on Green Street and north on Broadway Street.

Runs north and east through Delton, Hastings and Carlton to intersection with M43, east of Woodland in NE corner of Barry County. M-50 – enters NE tip of county at Woodbury. Runs west and north to Ionia County.

The Barry County Courthouse is a government building located at 220 West State Street in Hastings, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1969 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. [1]
