Hastings (/ ˈ h eɪ s t ɪ ŋ s / HAY-stings) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Barry County, as well as the county's only city. [5] The population was 7,514 at the 2020 census. The city borders Hastings Charter Township on the north, east, and south, and Rutland Charter Township on the west.
The Barry County Courthouse is a government building located at 220 West State Street in Hastings, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1969 [2] and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. [1]

[3] By 1839, the Territory had been admitted into the Union as Michigan State. In 1839, the Michigan State Legislature approved the organization of Barry County as an independent entity.
