Florissant (/ ˈ f l ɒr ɪ s ən t / ⓘ) is a city in St. Louis County, Missouri, within Greater St. Louis. It is a middle-class, second-ring northern suburb of St. Louis . Based on the 2020 United States census , the city had a total population of 52,533. [ 4 ]
It was built in 1800 as a two room log cabin and fur trading post and was eventually expanded into a 22-room mansion. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 1980 [2] It is one of the oldest houses in Missouri and is open for tours by the Florissant Historical Society.

He immigrated to the United States in 1850. Franz was hired as a farmworker near Bridgeton, Missouri and soon decided to mine for gold in California. He mined gold for seven years and came back to Florissant, Missouri with enough gold to purchase 50 acres (20 ha) of farmland and build the two-story Gittemeier House in 1860. [4] [5] [6]
When it was sold it was moved in order to save it from demolition. It is now a house museum operated by the Florissant Valley Historical Society on the grounds of McClure High School.
