In 2014, Golf Digest rated Muirfield Village as the number one golf course in Ohio, [11] and 53rd in the first-ever world's 100 greatest golf courses. [12] Golf Digest also ranked Muirfield Village 14th in the United States in 2018. [13] MVGC closed and underwent a large renovation after the 2020 Memorial Tournament.
The course was eventually expanded to 18 holes. In 1916, the club hired Donald Ross to construct a championship-caliber golf course, which was finished by the end of 1918. In his unpublished book, Golf Has Never Failed Me, Ross discussed the design of Inverness and only six other courses, out of the hundreds he designed. [citation needed]
There are two golf courses at the club, the North course and the South course. The 1969 PGA Championship was played on the South course and won by Raymond Floyd. It also hosted the 2005 U.S. Senior Open won by Allen Doyle and the 1986 U.S. Women's Open, which was won by Jane Geddes. The 2022 U.S. Senior Women's Open was won by Jill McGill.
