The City of Preston, or simply Preston (/ ˈ p r ɛ s t ən / ⓘ), [2] is a local government district with city status in Lancashire, England. It lies on the north bank of the River Ribble and has a population of 151,582 (2022).
Preston and its surrounding district obtained city status in 2002, becoming England's 50th city in the 50th year of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. [2] Preston had a population of 147,800 at the 2021 census [citation needed] the City of Preston district 156,411 in 2023 [3] and the Preston Built-up Area 313,322. [4]
