Macodes sanderiana is a terrestrial orchid with a compact creeping habit. The primary roots of M. sanderiana are fleshy and rarely branch, lateral feeding roots are short and black and are densely arranged on the primary roots. Upright stems are slightly succulent and two to four centimeters high carrying four to six leaves.
Macodes is one of a few genera of the orchid family known as jewel orchids. These terrestrial orchids grows in the rainforest floor of Southeast Asia with high humidity and low light. They can also be found in New Guinea , Vanuatu , the Solomon Islands and the Ryukyu Islands . [ 1 ]

Macodes petola (previously Neottia petola) [1] is a species of jewel orchid endemic to Southeast Asia including in Malaysia, New Guinea, Vanuatu, the Philippines and Sumatra. [2] Flowers from this species are small, with red-brown petals with a yellow edge and white lip and appear in the winter months. [ 2 ]
