There was only one other middle school in Kissimmee at the time. It was called Beaumont Middle School and students began the year at that one in August 1974. Student volunteers helped ready the school for opening the first day back from Christmas break.

The population was 35,183 in the 2010 census, and 58,964 in the 2020 census. The city is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area. St. Cloud was founded as a retirement community for Civil War union veterans, and gained the nickname "The Friendly Soldier City". [7]
