The new campus started functioning on 1 August 1974 at the Parameswara College premises in Thirunelvely some 4 km north of Jaffna city centre. [14] Parameswara College had been founded in 1921 by P. Ramanathan. The campus had approval for three faculties (Humanities, Law and Science) and one department (Physical Education).
