The track was started in the 1930s and opened by Will Thomas on the field, around the same time as the adjacent Tennant Park which was built in 1936 for Skewen RFC. In 1967 the track added a football pitch inside the greyhound circuit and Neath Athletic FC became tenants, changing their name to Skewen Athletic (now called Neath F.C).
Skewen is also the birthplace of internationally successful singer Bonnie Tyler and Welsh composer David John de Lloyd (1883-1948). Comedian Eddie Izzard lived in the village for a short time during childhood. [1] The grandparents of the legendary American entrepreneur Howard Hughes are believed to have lived in Skewen in the 1930s.
It is located below street level at Station Road in Skewen, 210 miles 26 chains (338 km) from London Paddington (via Stroud). [1] It is a stop on the South Wales Main Line , served by Transport for Wales Swanline regional trains between Swansea and Cardiff, which typically run every two hours.

The Neath River Swing Bridge is a swing bridge over the River Neath, in Wales.It carried the former Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway near Skewen.The bridge was constructed as a result of the Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway Act 1892, which aimed to provide access along the length of the river from wharves and jetties down past Briton Ferry.
