Apparently this is called normocalcemic hyperparathyroidism. My primary care doc is an endocrinologist and after a bone density test showed that my bones were losing density (despite doing a lot of weight bearing exercise), he wanted to do the blood test and the 24 hour urine catch which showed the elevated (but not scary) PTH and normal ...
Parathyroid hormone: I'm considering my treatment options. Posted by tsch @tsch, May 6, 2022. Read through most of the comments about hyperparathyroidism, but did not see any situations like mine: I have absolutely no negative symptoms or pains, but last blood test showed PTH of 174. I have known it to be elevated since January 2020.
My parathyroid hormone was also at the high end of normal, but these two values should not both be high. If calcium is higher, then the PTH should be lower. As we age, our blood calcium should go down, but that can be affected by Vit D, calcium intake (supplements), and the use of thiazide diuretics (either in blood pressure medicines or for ...
Posted by bruce1951vet @bruce1951vet, May 19, 2023. I was diagnosed 2 months ago with PMR. I started with 15mg per day of prednisone and am now down to 10mg per day. I am in the process of tapering down. My annual appointment for blood work the doctor noticed my PTH Intact level was 117.
A possible correlation between PTH and celiac is the malabsorption of nutrients, including minerals, from a damaged GI tract. Mostly one needs to limit the illnesses as well as you can with diet, meds (synthroid for me), exercise, and stress management. 2 Reactions. REPLY. 1 reply.
I'm an athletic almost 67-year-old runner and weight trainer eating a plant based diet. I went on Reclast 2.5 years ago and about a year after my first annual Reclast infusion developed hyperparathyroidism. My endocrinologist had me on 50,000 Vitamin D for the past 2 years but levels keep going up (they went down briefly but are now at 132 PTH).
Tymlos can cause hypercalcemia, but then the tenderness may be unrelated to microcalcification. I'd want reimaging of the breasts and calcium monitoring. Tymlos did not cause breast tenderness for me. Microcalcifications in my experience, if in the breast, are not cutaneous. Not sure if you are referring to the latter.
Posted by ripley @ripley, Jun 27 11:36am. I have severe osteoporosis, with lumbar spine DEXA of -3.9, which is 10.7% worse than 2.5 yrs ago when it was -3.2. My endocrinologist ordered a 24 hr urine test which showed an excessive calcium score of 410 (normal is 100-300). I had this test done 18 months ago and my calcium score was normal at 238.
There are several reason why someone with celiac disease may have bone loss. Malabsorption and inflammation are two of the main reasons for bone loss for celiac disease patients. Malabsorption of calcium leads to secondary hypoparathyriodism. When calcium levels are detected as low in the blood, parathyroid hormone (PTH) is secreted.
Posted by mainecoon @mainecoon, Jul 17, 2023. I have had second prolia injection at the 6 month mark. My pre-shot labs showed all normal calcium and creatine and kidney function except PTH was elevated to 159. From what I read in med pub articles is that this can be compensatory and temporary. My endo is now wanting to send me for 3D scan and ...
