The Allamakee County Court House in Waukon, Iowa, United States was built in 1940. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 as a part of the PWA-Era County Courthouses of IA Multiple Properties Submission. Waukon is often said to be named for Waukon Decorah, [4] a Ho Chunk (Winnebago) leader who was a U.S. ally during the 1832 Black Hawk War, although the city is also said to be named for his son Chief John Waukon. [5] Winnebagos lived in this area of Iowa in the 1840s, before being forced to relocate to Minnesota.
