Axess was meant to promote the Japanese release of Mega Man Battle Network 4 and prominently features characters and concepts from this game. However, it also uses many of the Mega Man Battle Network video games as source material for the almost entirely original plot (including characters that only appeared in Network Transmission).
The anime is composed of five series: EXE (56 episodes), Axess (51), Stream (51), Beast (25), Beast+ (26), and one feature-film. The anime series began on March 4, 2002 in Japan, and EXE and Axess were subsequently adapted in English, airing May 17, 2003.
The 50-minute feature film, Rockman EXE the Movie: Program of Light and Dark, also received a DVD release on September 21, 2005, in Japan. [28] The DVD includes a trailer for the sixth video game, a teaser for the fourth anime series (Beast), and a BassCross E-Reader card for use on Mega Man Battle Network 5.
The English adaptation of Axess aired in February 2005 in the United States and April 2005 in Canada, [14] with the first episode airing as a "sneak preview" on November 22, 2004. [15] [16] It would be dropped and revived only to complete the final episodes from Axess before dropping it once more, leaving the series unfinished. [5]
Like Axess, Stream consists of only one part with 51 episodes. Currently, there are no plans for an English adaptation of the series, but they did reuse some background elements in MegaMan Star Force. Stream premiered in Japan on October 2, 2004, exactly one week after Axess concluded. It ran until September 24, 2005.

This series loosely covers the storylines of the first two Mega Man Battle Network video-games, and also features some characters and elements from the third game (most prominently the N1 Grand Prix tournament). The original series in Japan ran from March 4, 2002, until March 31, 2003.
Rockman EXE Beast + episodes were twelve minutes in length compared to the previous seasons and were aired between April 8, 2006 and September 30, 2006. [2] [3] No English localization for the fourth and fifth season are currently planned, but they did reuse some background elements in MegaMan Star Force's English dub.
