The Hürriyet Daily News, formerly Hürriyet Daily News and Economic Review and Turkish Daily News, is the oldest current English-language daily in Turkey, founded in 1961. The paper was bought by the Doğan Media Group in 2001 and has been under the media group's flagship Hürriyet from 2006; both papers were sold to Demirören Holding in 2018.
Jarir was established in Riyadh in 1974 as a small bookshop on Jarir Street, from where it derives its name. It dealt in used books and art sold by expats living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In the 1980s, Jarir opened a second branch in Riyadh followed by one in the 1990s.

NTV was founded in 1996 as a subsidiary of Cavit Çağlar's Nergis Group (hence the original full name of Nergis TV) and as the first news channel of Turkey. In January 1999, the channel became part of Doğuş Media Group. The success of NTV changed the Turkish media industry and started the era of thematic TV channels.
