"Generals" is a single by English punk rock band the Damned, released in November 1982. [1] Like its parent album, it featured increased experimentation, with a piano-led sound and the addition of brass to the band's typical punk rock blend. The song followed the thoughtful material on the album, commenting on the true losers in war.

The Damned were formed by Dave Vanian, Brian James, Captain Sensible and Rat Scabies in June 1976. [1] After the release of their debut album Damned Damned Damned, Robert "Lu" Edmonds was added as a second guitarist in August 1977. [2] This lineup recorded Music for Pleasure, although Scabies had left the band by the time it was released. [3]
Critics praised the album's musicianship and 60s influences. Originally a member of the Johnny Moped band, Captain Sensible joined the Damned in 1976 on the suggestion of his colleague Rat Scabies, the band's drummer, filling a number of positions during his tenure (including bassist, lead guitarist and keyboardist), and eventually becoming the band's main songwriter following the departure of Brian James.
