Brooklyn College was founded in 1930. [5] That year, as directed by the New York City Board of Higher Education on April 22, the college authorized the combination of the Downtown Brooklyn branches of Hunter College, at that time a city women's college, and the City College of New York, then a men's college (both these branches had been established in 1926).

[a] [b] The school accepted its first cohort for the 2015-2016 academic year and was officially opened by Mayor Bill de Blasio in October 2015. [8]

In 1968, after the addition of arts and sciences departments and degree programs, Baruch College became a senior college within the CUNY system. [citation needed] In 1998, Baruch College's business school was renamed the Zicklin School of Business, in recognition of an $18 million donation by Lawrence and Carol Zicklin.
