Highlands is a town on the eastern border of Orange County, New York. The population was 12,939 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] West Point , including the United States Military Academy , is located alongside the Hudson River in Highlands.
The village was founded in 1906. It is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area. Highland Falls is in the Town of Highlands and is adjacent to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Established in 1917, Bahrs Restaurant is situated on the Sandy Hook Bay, overlooking Sandy Hook. The restaurant has a marina on the bay. Indoor and outdoor dining (with weather permitting) is available year round. On a clear day, patrons can see the New York Skyline and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge across the Sandy Hook Bay and Raritan Bay.
