After years of discussion, a major conference realignment was unveiled by the WIAA for southeastern Wisconsin in 1980. The Braveland Conference was formed in 1953 by four high schools in the outer suburbs of Milwaukee: Cedarburg, Menomonee Falls, Port Washington and Watertown.
