In March 2017 President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena awarded national honours to 90 individuals for distinguished services. [1] [2] [3] It was the first time in twelve years that awards were given out and there were 426 applicants. [4] The awards ceremony was held on 20 March 2017 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre in Colombo. [5]
Following the disaster, President Maithripala Sirisena requested the Sri Lanka Armed Forces, Police, and the Disaster Management Centre to provide assistance and relief to the victims.
