Shacklefords is an unincorporated community in King and Queen County, Virginia, United States.It derives its name from the Shackleford (or Shackelford) family, of whom the immigrant ancestor to the Virginia colony was Roger Shackelford, who was born in Old Alresford in the English county of Hampshire in 1629. [1]
Shackelford was born in Hancock County, Georgia, on September 26, 1786. He was one of ten children of John Shackelford (1736–1800), a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, and Frances Wade Butler (1736-unknown). He was a member of the large Roger Shackelford family that immigrated to Virginia before 1678.

A graduate of John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California, Shackelford earned 7 varsity letters in 3 years in basketball, baseball and golf.
