NordicTrack was founded by Edward and Florence Pauls in 1975, when Ed Pauls invented the original NordicTrack ski machine in his garage in Chaska, Minnesota, [1] in an effort to train for the local VJC cross-country ski race. Ed Pauls was an engineer, usually got home after dark, and was motivated to beat his Swedish friend in the race.
The motion of the rod is termed elliptical motion. The semi-axes a and b of the ellipses have lengths equal to the distances from the point on the rod to each of the two pivots. The straight lines described by the pivots are special cases of an ellipse, where the length of one axis is twice the distance between the pivots and that of the other ...
Red is an elliptical orbit (0 < e < 1). Grey is a circular orbit ( e = 0). The point on the horizontal line going out to the right from the focal point is the point with θ = 0 {\displaystyle \theta =0} for which the distance to the focus takes the minimal value p 1 + e , {\displaystyle {\tfrac {p}{1+e}},} the pericentre.
A highly elliptical orbit (HEO) is an elliptic orbit with high eccentricity, usually referring to one around Earth. Examples of inclined HEO orbits include Molniya orbits , named after the Molniya Soviet communication satellites which used them, and Tundra orbits .
