Edwin Warner Park and Percy Warner Park, collectively known as Warner Parks, are two major public parks in Nashville, Tennessee. They are part of the park system managed by the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation of Nashville and Davidson County. Radnor Lake State Natural Area, also known as Radnor Lake State Park, is a popular state natural area and state park in Oak Hill, Tennessee within Nashville. The 1,368 acres (5.54 km 2) nature preserve lies just outside Nashville. Five miles of unpaved trails wander through the woods surrounding the lake.
[5] [8] Near each end of the trestle flies a 12-by-18-foot (3.7 by 5.5 m) Tennessee Flag, each of which is surrounded by eight 5-by-8-foot (1.5 by 2.4 m) state flags. The large flags commemorate the state's bicentennial celebration, and the small flags represent Tennessee's status as the 16th state admitted to the Union. [9]
The Nashville Park Commission acquired the initial land for the park in 1909, [3] purchasing 151 acres (0.61 km 2) that had been previously used for an amusement park. Shelby Park officially opened on July 4, 1912. [3] A few scenes in Touchstone's 1991 film Ernest Scared Stupid were filmed here.
Tennessee has 59 designated state parks, operated by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC). The largest park, Justin P. Wilson Cumberland Trail, is made up of land along the Cumberland Trail, stretching from Cumberland Gap at the Virginia state line to Prentice Cooper State Forest in Marion County, just northwest of Chattanooga.
