In the late 1970s Bill Ker was appointed president and honbuchō (本部長) for Chitō-ryū in Australia. [25] He later gained the rank of 4th dan (四段). In 1991 Ker retired from active involvement in Chitō-ryū. Upon his retirement, Brian Hayes was appointed president and honbucho by Chitose.
