[4] [5] In 1847, the municipality was first incorporated but was soon abolished.
The town was named in honour of her because she was the elder sister of Ambrose, another saint, whose name was chosen for the neighboring municipality of Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare. Since the municipality of Sainte-Marcelline-de-Kildare was created from territories of Saint=Ambroise-de-Kildare, it made sense to name the municipality after her.
