The Newberry Correctional Facility is a state prison for men, owned and operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections. It is located in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on the south side of Newberry, in Luce County. [1] The facility was opened in 1996 and has a working capacity of 1108 prisoners, held at a medium security level.

Newberry is surrounded by state and national forests and is considered the southern gateway to the Tahquamenon Falls area, which the other being Paradise to the northeast. Newberry was designated as "the Moose Capital of Michigan" by the state legislature. The Newberry Correctional Facility is located just south of the village.
The Luce County Sheriff's House and Jail was originally built as a correctional facility and government building at 411 West Harrie Street in Newberry, Michigan, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 [1] and designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1975. [2]
