WBXX began operation as independent WCPT-TV ("Wonderful Cumberland Plateau Television") on analog channel 55 (716–722 MHz) beginning October 3, 1976, from a tower site on Haley Mountain (Renegade Resort) in Cumberland County, Tennessee.
