Hi, I'm newish too (Type 2) diet and metformin. Appetite lost - completely off the chart. I've probably cut about 3,000 calories a day at least and lost 20lbs in 4 weeks - intentionally but the metformin has definitely kicked my appetite into touch. I couldn't have done it any other way - not at my age. Amazingly, I don't feel hungry.
I discovered that metformin acts as a mild appetite suppressant on me, as it does for some folks. So yes, some few kg weight loss, that disappeared when not on metformin. It was all in the realms of normal body weight (for me since lower carb eating post diagnosis), so interesting to see if it affected my blood glucose.
By the way, one of the reasons my doctor is putting me on Metformin is due to the appetite suppressant factors and help with weight loss in addition to my weight loss and excercise plan. Has this been the case for anyone here - you are not hungry or much less hungry, feel full quicker and obviously have lost weight?
I thought Metformin was an appetite suppressant . F. ... I’m pretty sure Metformin is considered weight ...
A couple of months ago I began taking a B12 supplement! Conclusions Long term treatment with metformin increases the risk of vitamin B-12 deficiency, which results in raised homocysteine concentrations. Vitamin B-12 deficiency is preventable; therefore, our findings suggest that regular...
If you're having stomach/GI distress or bloating, it could be from the metformin; call your doc and ask for an Rx for the extended-release metformin. It stops that stuff for most people, and there's no need for you to be miserable or uncomfortable while taking it. The decrease in appetite I consider a wonderful side-effect!
First week 1000mg/day then 2000mg/day due to cardio problems on both sides of the family. I did not agree with taking metformin so soon, especially 2000mg/day but my NP insists so I complied agreeing to try it. Now about 3 1/2 weeks in my appetite comes and goes and usually is worse mid afternoon toward dinner.
Metformin (Glucophage) may be used successfully as a medication for type 2 diabetes. Lowers insulin levels. It lowers insulin levels, helps to prevent diabetes complications, and helps people with diabetes to lose weight. Losing weight whilst taking Metformin (Glucophage) means also eating a healthy diet
Yes. I gave it a whirl as an alternative to metformin, understanding that berbrine is not regulated at all to the same extent as metformin is. Also, is not government subsidised. ($!) I had a very difficult to live with side effect from metformin, which as well as being a mild appetite suppressant (good) it was also a mild depressant (not good!).
As Metformin is an appetite suppressant, logically that is the reason why it helps with weight loss. I don't know of any other reason why it will help with weight loss. Less appetite = weight loss. I can't see how increasing the Metformin will help you in this respect, unless of course you are eating more. I could be wrong, but that is my thinking.
