Land Records. The Erie County Clerk is the official registrar of deeds, mortgages, assignments of mortgages, satisfactions of mortgages, judgments and liens. The Clerk has the duty of indexing and preserving these documents.
Legal Records. The County Clerk serves as the Clerk for the Supreme and County Courts of Erie County and is, therefore, responsible for keeping all court-related documents. Civil actions begin here by filing the papers and obtaining an index number from the Actions and Proceedings Department.

The Clerk's office maintains the records for the Common Pleas Court and the 6th District Court of Appeals. The Clerk is also responsible for issuing and maintaining all motor vehicle and watercraft titles in Erie County.
