Jan Grootboom was a Xhosa scout from the Eastern Cape, South Africa who followed and taught Robert Baden-Powell scouting skills during the Matabele campaign. [1]
Biography. Grootboom was born in 1954. He started his student activism at the University of the Western Cape in 1973. He soon became involved with the Black Consciousness movement and joined the South African Students Organisation (SASO). He was also involved with the New Unity Movement and played a leading role in student politics.
