The largest number of competing schools is found in Division II with 40; Division I has 39 and Division III has 24. Unlike in most sports for which the NCAA holds championships, one bowling championship is held, open to members of all three divisions.

The 2005 NCAA Bowling Championship was the second annual tournament to determine the national champion of women's NCAA collegiate ten-pin bowling. The tournament was played at Wekiva Lanes in Orlando, Florida during April 2005.

The inaugural championship was originally scheduled to be held in 2020 but was delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. The tournament is held concurrently and at the same location as the NAIA Men's Bowling Championship. The three-time reigning national champions are SCAD Savannah, who won their third title in 2023.
