I'm not the OP, but I looked this up because the Vanilla gift cards have become hard to use online. I got a substantial amount in Vanilla gift cards for Christmas. If I'm able to buy an Amazon card instead, it's easier for me to use it.

I can see buying Amazon gift cards at Walgreen's if you're a big Amazon shopper but you'd be better off just getting an Amazon credit card in that case. I have a credit card that gives 3% on all mobile payments so there'd be no upside for me to buy gift cards except to use online or at stores that don't take Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay.
